The Riven Sound Effects Game Show

Know the game Riven and it's glorious musical and sound wonders? Think you know the sound effects well enough to recognize them by ear? Well test your skills at the 1st Riven Sound Effects Game Show! This Saturday come on down to the Eastern Time Zone Bevin for fun and games and to hear a little bit of the masterpeice that was Riven.

We'll be looking for three contestants to give this a shot. The game will be run similar to the show Jeopardy.

As a note, due to the unreliability of in game Voice Chat, we are going to be playing the sounds over Teamspeak 3. Details about configuring that can be found at the More Info link provided.

Any questions can be directed to me in game at my KI number, by e-mail tanshin@guildofmessengers.com, or on the MOUL forums. Please let me know if you have any Teamspeak troubles.

Update: We are planning an audience participation portion to the game. Audience members can PM their answers to me, and they will go into a log. After the game I will review the answers to see who got the most correct. Answers must be submitted before a contestant answers correctly for them to count. Sadly, I do not have the funds to get physical prizes, so the prize is bragging rights for now.

EdGames: The Mysterious Men of Myst

EdGames 670 is a blog about educational games, written by pupils of the EDTEC 670 course at San Diego State University.  One of this week's contributions to the blog is all about Myst.

John Miller's entry, titled The Mysterious Men of Myst, briefly explains the concept of Myst and makes mention of its sequels, including Uru Live and the recent iPhone Myst application.  He mentions how Myst was not originally conceived as an educational game, yet how others such as Tim Rylands have used games from the Myst series as teaching implements.  He indicates that he also hopes to use Myst as a tool for the instruction of narrative writing next semester, and invites comments from anyone who can provide ideas.

Mr. Miller does not indicate in the article whether he is of any relation to Rand or Ryan Miller, the creators of Myst.

Make One, Share One Competition

Shorah Myst fans!

You may be familiar with deviantArt's Myst Fanclub. It provides a venue for artists to express thier creativity based on the Myst game & book series. The artists who make up the club have produced literary pieces, paintings, jewelry, pure digital works, wood craft, yard art, traditional drawings, many other types of crafted work.

Currently, dA's Myst Fan club is sponsoring the Make One, Share One competition. This exciting event has already begun to inspire members to create some wonderfully original Myst related art. The resulting physical pieces are being set aside by the artists creating them, as awards for future club-sponsored contests.

The club's journal holds additional information about the progress of the contest, and there's a gallery set aside specifically to showcase entries.

Link over when you have a moment, and take a peek at what's being produced. We hope you'll be inspired, and will consider leaving some words of encouragement for the artists who are sharing their work with us.
